Maintaining our reputation as a high integrity supplier of materials handling equipment comes with many responsibilities. Our people our customers and our suppliers have always come first. In 2017, it is becoming more relevant than ever for businesses to help reduce the global carbon footprint. More and more businesses are going green, and Hystandard is no exception to this. In a high emissions industry like materials handling, a green focus is only becoming more relevant. The proliferation battery-powered equipment is a step in the right direction, but we need to do more as an industry.
We are aware of the impact our business has on the environment and our responsibility to mitigate damage. With this in mind, Hystandard have just installed a new 30kw solar system in our Victorian branch. This system collects sunlight and coverts it to usable power throughout the day, reducing our reliance on the grid.
According to Managing Director John Flinn “Our philosophy is simple, we want to be a successful company. This is not possible unless many things are achieved. We need to tread lightly on the environment as we achieve our other goals of providing industry leading service to our customers whilst providing a sustainable workplace for our employees. We believe this new system will give Hystandard a huge advantage over our competitors in terms of reducing our carbon footprint. It doesn’t stop there, we have even bigger things planned for 2020 when we complete our new facility in NSW”.
On a global level, HYG (Hyster-Yale Group) has begun development of hydrogen fuel cells. This will enable us to provide equipment with the run-time of diesel or LPG equipment, with the green footprint of battery-electric equipment. As the technology develops, we are only going to get better at creating a sustainable, long-term environmental solution.
